You may be wondering what miniature drag racing and power tools have in common – and it’s rather more than you might think, at least as far as manufacturer Silverline is concerned.
The Somerset-based company, which sponsors a top team in the British Touring Car Championship, is also the driving force behind the annual Silverline Power Tools Drag Racing Championship, held last weekend at the Yeovilton-based Fleet Air Arm Museum.
The event celebrated its fifth year with a display of power tools that had been engineered into drag racing machines. Featuring ride-on and non ride-on classes, the tools being put through their paces as adapted drag racer powerplants included circular saws, belt sanders and drills.
If this catches your imagination, you can always enter next year’s event. The 2010 gathering saw a total prize fund of £3,000 up for grabs and entries from teams and individuals were welcomed.
To learn more about this gloriously silly pursuit you can visit YouTube and learn more on the Silverline website where a report of this year’s event should soon appear and where you can get details about the entry process.
Just don’t blame us if converting your drill into a miniature racing suddenly seems more attractive than using it to put up that set of shelves…
